Each year Riding For A Cure Incorporated, II selects one rider under the age of 18 to participate in our 20-mile ride and raise money for cancer research. We are pleased to announce the 2009 YOUTH RIDER OF THE YEAR is EMILY SMITH!

Below is a copy of her letter she submitted to the Founder, Christine Gabriel:

Dear Mrs. Gabriel,

My name is Emily Smith and I am a fifth grade student at Richmond Grade School. As long as I can remember I have had a love for horses. I have been riding since the age of 5 and this past Christmas I was lucky enough to be blessed with my very own horse Molly.

Last year me and my dad went to Arlington Park and I noticed a banner advertising the Ride for a Cure. My dad explained to me that people who love horses get together to raise money to help find a cure for cancer. I asked him if we could ride and raise money to help find a cure. I also ask if raising money would help our family members with cancer. He explained that it will help everyone.

I would love to be able to join your team and help raise money for this cause. The people who have cancer need lots of help and if I can help raise money by doing my favorite thing horseback riding that would be great. If able to ride I would like to dedicate my ride to my cousin Frankie, my Uncle Ronnie and school friend Randy who are in heaven now. Along with my Aunt Norcha and a family friend Marcie who are fighting cancer now.

Sincerely,
Emily Smith
