((Wayne, Ill.) - From its inception in 2002, Riding For A Cure
(RFAC) has been raising significant amounts of money for cancer
research and in 2008 the organization set a record by raising
$100,000, which was presented in a donation to The University
of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation.
The six-figure donation, the first in the history of RFAC, brings
the total raised by the organization for cancer research to $450,000
since its inaugural year.
Founded in 2002 by former Arlington Park television personality
and four-time cancer survivor Christine Gabriel, Riding For A
Cure is a 501 (c)3 for The University of Chicago Cancer Research
Foundation. Each year, riders and volunteers pony up for a 20-mile
trail ride and dinner/dance to raise money for cancer research.
Last year’s event had a new location and forged a new partnership
with Lamplight Equestrian Center to bring the event to a larger
equestrian community, which allowed for the record setting year.
“Our new partnership with Lamplight Equestrian Center helped
us take Riding For A Cure to new heights,” Gabriel said.
“The beautiful grounds provided a breathtaking backdrop
for all of the events surrounding the ride and we look forward
to this year’s ride in August.”
Lamplight Equestrian Center, a fifty-six acre facility, located
in the scenic and historic Fox River Valley, offers it’s
competitors, guest, and spectators a beautiful and competitor
friendly showing experience in the Midwest’s largest equestrian
community.
Riders, volunteers, sponsors and all those who donated made it
possible to raise this massive amount for cancer research.
